Wall Street Ends Mixed as Broadcom Drags Tech, European Stocks Gain; Oil Dips
💡 Tech stocks led by Broadcom weighed on Wall Street, while European markets gained and oil prices dipped.
The US stock market closed in a mixed state on Wednesday, with tech stocks leading the decline. The S&P 500 fell 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.6%.
US Stocks End Mixed
The decline in tech stocks was led by Broadcom, which fell 4.5% after the company reported weaker-than-expected earnings. The semiconductor sector also suffered, with down 3.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, managed to eke out a small gain of 0.1%.
European Markets Gain
In contrast, European markets ended the day on a higher note. The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.8%, with major bourses in London, Paris, and Frankfurt also gaining ground. The European Central Bank has been a key driver of the region's economic growth, and its interest rate decisions have been closely watched by investors.
Oil Prices Dip
Oil prices also fell on Wednesday, with Brent crude dropping 1.2% to $73.45 per barrel. The decline in oil prices was driven by concerns about global demand, as well as the ongoing trade tensions between the US and China. The WTI crude oil price also fell, down 1.1% to $67.15 per barrel.
