The Federal Reserve delivered a hawkish surprise on Wednesday, signaling that interest rate cuts remain further away than markets had hoped. Fed Chair Jerome Powell told reporters that the central bank needs "greater confidence" that inflation is sustainably declining before it will consider easing policy.

Federal Reserve Holiday Schedule
The Federal Reserve, like many US financial institutions, observes Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. As a result, the Fed is closed on June 19, 2026.
Stock Market Holiday Schedule
The stock market, however, is not entirely closed on Juneteenth. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ will be open for trading, but with limited hours. The NYSE will close at 1 pm ET, while the NASDAQ will close at 1 pm ET as well.
Options and Futures Exchanges
The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will also observe the holiday, but with reduced hours. The OCC will close at 12:30 pm ET, while the CME will close at 12:30 pm ET.
